A Tropical Adventure: Our Family Vacation in Puerto Rico
The Condado Vanderbilt Hotel stood as a beacon of luxury against the backdrop of San Juan's vibrant coastline, welcoming us with open arms to a paradise waiting to be explored. Nestled right on the water, this historical gem had a story to tell.
Originally built in 1919 by Frederick William Vanderbilt, a scion of the prominent Vanderbilt family, the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel has since undergone meticulous renovations, blending its rich heritage with modern elegance.
As we stepped into the grand lobby, we were greeted by the promise of culinary delights awaiting us within its walls. The hotel boasted a culinary scene that rivaled any other, featuring several restaurants catering to every taste bud imaginable.
From the chic ambiance of The VC Lounge to the sophisticated charm of Veritas Wine and Cognac Bar, and the laid-back vibe of Avo Lounge, where cigars and cocktails mingled harmoniously, there was something for everyone. We quickly realized that we could spend our entire vacation indulging in the delectable offerings of these establishments without ever having to leave the comfort of the hotel.
Nature's Symphony
But venture out we did, for the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel was perfectly situated amidst a bustling neighborhood teeming with life. Within walking distance, we discovered a myriad of stores for shopping and restaurants offering a taste of Puerto Rican cuisine
Travel tip:
Driving in Puerto Rico was an adventure in itself, with narrow roads and a rhythm of traffic that danced to its own beat. Patience and a good GPS were our allies as we explored the city's vibrant streets.
One of the highlights of our trip was touring the majestic Castillo San Cristobal, a fortress steeped in history and intrigue. Built by the Spanish in the 18th century to protect the city from naval attacks, the fort's sprawling grounds seemed to unfold endlessly before us.
Unlike other forts we had visited, Castillo San Cristobal offered an abundance of nooks and crannies to explore, each revealing glimpses of the city below and the vast expanse of the ocean beyond. From the dizzying heights of its ramparts, we were treated to panoramic views that took our breath away.

The next day, eager for more adventures, we arranged for transportation to Puerto Del Rey for a beach day. Our chariot awaited—a catamaran ready to whisk us away to small island called Cayo Icacos.
As we sailed across the azure waters, the anticipation grew with each passing moment. Arriving at the island, we were greeted by a scene straight out of a postcard.
The pristine beach beckoned us to its shores, where we spent hours basking in the sun and frolicking in the crystal-clear waters. Snorkeling in the deeper waters revealed a kaleidoscope of marine life, a mesmerizing experience for first time snorkelers.
Our day at Cayo Icacos had been nothing short of magical, a blissful interlude in paradise that would forever be etched in our memories. And as we made our way back to the shore, music blasting, we knew that this was a day we would cherish for a lifetime.
The next day, our thirst for adventure led us deep into the heart of El Yunque National Rainforest, where we embarked on an exhilarating ATV ride through the lush tropical landscape.
