A Historic Visit To Charleston

Hey there, fellow travelers and adventure seekers! Buckle up, because we’re about to take you on a wild ride through our recent escapade in the charming, historic city of Charleston, South Carolina.

With cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and a vibe that transports you back in time.  A visit filled with pub tours, delectable dining, and thought-provoking historical encounters. Let's dive right in, shall we?

From the moment we set foot in Charleston, we were swept away by its historic charm. The air was thick with tales of yesteryear, and the streets seemed to whisper secrets of the past.

A Thoughtful Visit to Fort Sumter:

Our day started with a visit to Fort Sumter. We arrived at Patriots Point about 20 minutes prior to departure. Giving us time to take a few pictures the surroundings, and the USS Yorktown CV-10. Although you can purchase tickets to tour the ship, we only had time to visit the Fort.

The ferry ride to the fort was scenic, offering panoramic views of Charleston Harbor. However, as we approached the site, a sense of unease settled in. The knowledge that this fort, like many others of its time, was built using slave labor weighed heavily on our hearts.

Upon arrival, we were met with a somber yet enlightening experience. The exhibits and the gift shop at Fort Sumter painted a vivid picture of its significance in American history. The fort's role in the Civil War became clear, and we couldn't help but reflect on the inhumane foundation upon which our nation was built. It was a stark reminder of our dark and horrific past and the progress yet to be made.

As we boarded the ferry back to Charleston, our minds were a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. We felt grateful for the opportunity to learn about our history, even the uncomfortable parts. Our visit to Fort Sumter had opened our eyes, sparking a desire to delve deeper into the complexities of our nation's past.

Culinary Delights at Henry's On The Market

We had to check out Henry's On The Market, a cozy restaurant tucked away in the heart of Charleston since the 1930's. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the menu boasted Southern classics with a modern twist. We indulged in dishes that danced on our taste buds, leaving us craving for more.

Looking for something else to get into, we decided on a walking pub tour that promised not only delightful libations but also a glimpse into Charleston's rich history. As we wandered from pub to pub, we learned about the city's pivotal role in the American Revolution and the Civil War. It was incredible to think that we were treading the same paths as historical figures.

As we sipped on local brews and shared hearty laughs, we met fellow travelers on the tour. There's something magical about bonding over shared experiences and a mutual love for history. The camaraderie among our newfound friends added an extra layer of joy to our adventure.

  • Exploring the local markets was a sensory delight. The vibrant colors, and the lively chatter of vendors created a bustling atmosphere. We even tried Pralines – a Southern confectionery masterpiece! Sweet, nutty, and utterly irresistible, these treats became an instant favorite. Delicious!

High Battery Park: A Stroll Through History:

High Battery Park, with its picturesque views and historic homes, was a testament to Charleston's grandeur. Walking hand in hand, we marveled at the antebellum architecture and imagined the stories hidden within the walls. The park exuded a serene ambiance, inviting us to linger and soak in the rich history that surrounded us
